Provoking Thoughts

Blog #98 June 16, 2025

There is one place in all of creation that God, by His own design, is of secondary authority. Within our free will/agency God offers us not only the ability but also the responsibility to decide.

Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord

In the Garden, God exposed Adam to this gift of free will and the burden of responsibility it brought to his life. When God gave the commandment against eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, He reveled to man His ability to ponder, assess, and decide.

Genesis 2:21 Nevertheless, thou mayest choose for thyself, for it is given unto thee; but remember that I forbid it;

Along with this ability to choose freely without God interfering we soon discover that man also has the right to choose his own destiny as well as the destiny of God’s creation. According to God, His Kingdom will come to the Earth again only when man freely seeks to be a part of the will of God.

Genesis 9:22-23
9:22 And this is mine everlasting covenant, that when thy posterity shall embrace the truth, and look upward, then shall Zion look downward, and all the heavens shall shake with gladness, and the earth shall tremble with joy;
9:23 And the general assembly of the church of the firstborn shall come down out of heaven, and possess the earth, and shall have place until the end come. And this is mine everlasting covenant, which I made with thy father Enoch.

Evidently this Kingdom stuff is a joint effort that is currently disjointed. I mean face it people, we can’t give the Kingdom to God and if God were going to give it to us He probably would have done so a long time ago. Maybe, perhaps, God and we are supposed to build this Kingdom together. Consider if you will why the Kingdom of God is not here, right now.

DC 102:2c 2c and Zion cannot be built up unless it is by the principles of the law of the celestial kingdom, otherwise I cannot receive her unto myself;

We have failed since the time of Enoch to grasp and embody the very nature of the Kingdom of God, which is: others over self. God expresses to Enoch the need for us to recognize this very basic aspect of our nature within God’s creation.

Genesis 7:39-40
7:39 The Lord said unto Enoch, Behold, these thy brethren, they are the workmanship of mine own hands, and I gave unto them their knowledge in the day that I created them.

7:40 And in the garden of Eden gave I unto man his agency; and unto thy brethren have I said, and also gave commandment, that they should love one another; and that they should choose me their Father.

It is very much a part of the way Christ defined celestial law.

Luke 10:28 And he answering, said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.

Christ emphasized this theme of others over self with the life He led and the death He died. He was born that He might die. He died that He might live again and that we might live with Him.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us

God Himself extolls the virtue of living to serve others with His own purpose.

DC 22:23a-b
23a And the Lord God spake unto Moses, saying, The heavens, they are many and they can not be numbered unto man, but they are numbered unto me, for they are mine; and as one earth shall pass away, and the heavens thereof, even so shall another come; 23b and there is no end to my works, neither to my words; for this is my work and my glory, to bring to pass the immortality, and eternal life of man.

To emphasize what we are trying to achieve gather to yourself these discouraging thoughts: How many charismatic leaders have been offered to humanity? How many tomes of scriptures have been written to give direction? How many people have given all they have even life itself, and still there is no Kingdom. Brethren we need a different approach.

In the world today nothing is harder to accomplish nor more needed than the very pursuit God lays at our feet. We must learn to recognize and act upon the needs of those around us. Does that mean to give all we have to any of the various charities that will gladly take it. That’s not my aim. I am seeking for each of us to face the world tomorrow putting forth an effort to be a happy face for those that are sad, a friendly presence for those who are troubled, and the hope of a better day for those filled with despair. It will take a lot, but in God through the Spirit we have all the strength we need to accomplish the task. Lean on your faith and God will teach you how to move mountains. That’s been promised, and God doesn’t lie.

Matthew 17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief; for, verily, I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove to yonder place, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Genesis 7:14-17
7:14 And it came to pass, that Enoch continued to call upon all the people, save it were the people of Cainan, to repent.
7:15 And so great was the faith of Enoch, that he led the people of God, and their enemies came to battle against them, and he spake the word of the Lord, and the earth trembled, and the mountains fled, even according to his command.
7:16 And the rivers of water were turned out of their course, and the roar of the lions was heard out of the wilderness.

As a people in covenant with God, we have the God given authority to keep God’s Kingdom from ever finding its true place in this earthly sphere. If you need proof to this fantastic claim, hear it in God’s own words.

DC 102:2a Behold, I say unto you, Were it not for the transgressions of my people, speaking concerning the church and not individuals, they might have been redeemed even now;

Brethren, it is also within our abilities to make “The Kingdom of God on Earth as it is in Heaven” a very real place instead of just a legend. But for it to be truly alive in this temporal world it must first live in our hearts and become the very reason why we are who we are and do what we do. To understand clearly what I am saying let us revisit

Genesis 7:40 And in the garden of Eden gave I unto man his agency; and unto thy brethren have I said, and also gave commandment, that they should love one another; and that they should choose me their Father.

Fulfilling the needs of another is the very essence of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is the labor of God and the reason that Zion will exist. When we allow this spirit of charity to be alive in our hearts Zion will grow. It will become at first an ideal that will guide us in what we do for others today. It will grow to become more that what we do. It will become who we are. In the end it will become our home and a sanctuary for all who seek the truth and virtue, which are God.

People, friends, brethren we can do this and we can start today. Let it start in simple ways. Try the words please and thank you. Both are endearing words that can open our heart as well as those to whom they are said. Open the door for someone without it being a mater of age or gender. Before long it will become a game we play and something we do that makes our day better, and that’s when the fun starts. When we let it become a desire in our hearts God promises us that He will be there to labor with us. Our labor suddenly becomes a play-date with God.

Psalms 37:3-6
37:3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
37:4 Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 37:5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
37:6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

Try it. Prove me wrong.
